Living Rooted in Identity: In His Image

Today’s Reading: Romans 12

You don’t have the right to dishonor them no matter how dishonoring they’ve been to you, because the truth is that no matter how hideous people may be, we all are still image bearers of Almighty God. Even the most despicable of us is still a faint reflection of Him, because He knit together our bodies and breathed His life-giving breath into our lungs. Though the truth may be wretched to swallow, the truth it remains.

Honor His image in those who mistreat you by choosing to respond with wisdom rather than reacting out of pain and anger. Yes, pray for and seek after justice, but leave the vengeance to the God of Angel Armies. Vengeance is unbefitting of a Son or Daughter of God. You are made of kinder stuff than that. His Spirit dwells in this tabernacle of flesh, and He gives you all the good gifts of grace, mercy, and long-suffering that you need to endure doing good and walking wisely in the face of those who dishonor you.

“Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for His wrath. For it is written: ‘Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” Romans 12:29, HCSB
