Choose gratitude, I’ve been told. His gifts are everywhere, so just be grateful. Keep a log of as many good gifts as you can.


It worked.


For a while.


But logging a couch or the birdsong or a laugh, something orange or the curve of the water at the horizon–it was just compiling a list of things. Things that point to the Giver, yes, but in the end, it was just a list of things.


Anyone can keep a list and be downright thirsty for life.


I opened a book one day, because that’s what I do when I want life, and from then on it wasn’t looking for gifts or counting blessings or making lists that mattered anymore. Not one bit…
